tried a new for me collage technique.
i’ve had my eye on this piecing style of collage technique for sometime. not sure what its called. one sees it often with fabric. and, i admit that the work of another artist inspired me. ( i mean wow …right ?) i thought it’s time to try this. the making was very fiddly. took a very long time…days. and made me feel nervous vs how collaging usually relaxes me. but i impressed myself with the final product. it actually looks like her. and i feel curious what other work I can do like this.

My image source was from this years calendar of her. i first traced all the detail. realizing immediately that there was no way I could tackle that with cut paper. so, i retraced it in a simpler form and in that I could imagine how I would make it. I see all my mistakes. Like I could have done better with her nose and in the end i cut off her ears. i left her looking like she was floating. and the binding is rather wonky. yet for a first try i am delighted by her likeness and a new way to collage. The top photo is final. 7x7 with its binding.
