Singularity

Creative Subconscious Collage offers voice to the inner depths of the mind.

The making often reveals itself in themes.

Singularity represents the theme of things singular.

Often I use the three word method for defining a mood, an idea, or in this case these collages.

I asked two respected wordsmith friends to allow "Singularity" to speak to them.

Both know me a person, and as a creative.

I added my own three words to offer a collective.

I believe art is something uniquely encountered by the individual viewing it.

I value tremendously the varied experiences that my art provokes in others.

I value it even more when those impressions are shared with me.

Is there a collage or two, or more that speaks to you?

What does it say?

Thank you Sara and Gary for your word sharing.

2025 NOTES:

This particular instillation launched in January of 2020. Above was the artist statement for SINGULARITY.

I culled daily journal pages from 2017 and 2018 into themes. The Singularity theme arose from that collection of work. I like the process of turning my art into a comprehensive installation. These were framed in the same frames that Inspirit Form toured in. Each piece had a shipping tag with its typed collective of word impressions hanging down from its frame.

For the first time my collage art was scanned so that I could offer prints.

Prints of this collage installation are available exclusively at Brazen.

Once Covid hit their tour ended. I lost 11 showings that year. Not only collage art but also photography. The collection then sat in my 23 year old car. Over time it became apparent that the pressure seals of my car were worn and moisture seepage was happening. Not a good thing for paper art. I had to make a decision. I had no room to store 21 framed pieces of art in my apartment. So, I sold all the frames. Kept the art.

The originals below have since sold.

Below each collage from the SINGULARITY instillation with their collective word impressions.

Below that is a full gallery that you can click on and see in lightbox.

( a fb memory today from 2020 shared this commentary )

wow -- very very heavy moments in my memory feed today. i seek memories purposefully because it is easy to forget what one has had to overcome.

while my touring collage installation "singularity" is on hold at the moment. it shows up over and over in memories.

My collage work now is helping me cope. even if i feel vulnerable, I find strength from making art. a year or 10 from now. my work will be a memory. it will help me make sense of times pandemic

This is a collage from "singularity", a 21 piece 11x14 framed collection of art that explores things singular.

many of those collages were about struggling to find a place to live.

on this day I looked at a very expensive tiny apartment in a neighborhood near the airport. the place was visibly moldy. and the smell of mold was halting. the landlord said, "this is the pnw - get use to it."

I made this collage later that day with images from a found magazine on one of my errands.

“in it. i feel like my hands are tied. that finding home in this moment might be impossible. yet the bursting of something blooming reminded me to hold onto hope.”

what else did i have.

how very valid home is.

has sheltering in place redefined home for you?

installations are like giving birth. they take time to develop into something comprehensive.

this one became a collaborative

and as it's viewed the collaboration continues.
